BillCheck is owned and operated by Jackalope Software, LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("BillCheck," "we," "us," "our"). You can contact us at support@jackalopeventures.com or by the alternative methods listed in Section 14.
This policy describes what data we collect when you use the BillCheck mobile app, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the BillCheck app and the BillCheck backend service at billcheck-backend.vercel.app. It does not apply to third-party services you may reach through links in the app. Washington residents should also review our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
In our normal operation, when you submit a bill for analysis, here is exactly what happens:
If we ever change this processing flow in a way that would result in retention of bill data, we will update this policy and provide notice in the app before the change takes effect.
We use the commercial API of Anthropic, PBC ("Anthropic") to analyze your bills. Anthropic is a U.S.-based AI safety company. When we send your bill to Anthropic for analysis:
You can review Anthropic's privacy practices at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
We currently do not collect analytics. We plan to add anonymous analytics (such as Mixpanel) in a future app update to understand how people use BillCheck — for example, how many people scan a bill in a typical week, or where users tend to drop off in the flow. When we add analytics, we will update this policy and the analytics will:
BillCheck charges $4.99 per scan or $14.99 for a bundle of five scans. Purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). Those companies handle your payment information; we never see it. We receive only a purchase confirmation tied to your device or platform account. Refund requests are handled by Apple and Google per their respective policies.
We do not sell your data. We share information only in these limited cases:
We use industry-standard security measures, including TLS encryption for data in transit and platform-level access controls for our backend infrastructure. Because we do not store your bill images in our normal operation, the most significant data-loss risks (database breach, backup theft) do not apply to BillCheck. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law and without undue delay.
Because we do not maintain accounts or store your bill data, most data-rights requests have a simple answer: we do not have data about you to access, correct, or delete. However, if you believe we hold information about you and want to exercise a privacy right, contact us using any of the methods in Section 14 and we will respond within 30 days (or as required by applicable law).
California residents have the right to know what personal information we have collected, request deletion, correct inaccuracies, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Medical information you submit qualifies as "sensitive personal information" under the CPRA. You have the right to limit our use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the Service you requested — which is already our practice. To exercise any California right, see Section 14.
To the extent the CMIA applies to information you submit, we use such medical information only to provide the analysis you requested and do not share it with marketers, insurers, or employers.
Washington residents have specific rights over consumer health data under the MHMDA. Because these rights are detailed and the law is prescriptive about how consent and exercise of rights must work, we maintain a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy that governs our handling of Washington residents' health data.
We do not sell your personal information. Nevada residents may request confirmation of this by contacting us at the methods in Section 14.
To the extent applicable, we process medical information only to provide the service you requested. Texas residents may request to know, correct, or delete personal information we hold by contacting us at the methods in Section 14.
BillCheck is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps, including deletion of any associated data we may hold. For users between 13 and 17 who use the app despite our age restriction, the protections of applicable laws (including California AB 1186 and similar) apply, and we will handle their data accordingly.
BillCheck is intended for use within the United States only. We do not target users outside the U.S. and the Service may not be available or appropriate elsewhere. If you access BillCheck from outside the U.S., including from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you acknowledge that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those of your country. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
If we change this policy, we will update the "Effective" date at the top and, for material changes, provide notice in the app. Continued use of BillCheck after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
To exercise any right under this policy or to ask a privacy question, you may reach us by either of the following methods. We treat both methods equally and will respond within 30 days (or as required by applicable law):
